Dr Mary Addae BSc, MSc, BPharm, PHarmD

(nee  Nana Dokua Bright Asare)  is an Old Girl of Wesley Girl's High School,  Cape Coast, Ghana.  Dr Addae earned her graduate and postgraduate education in Canada and United States of America.

She has over 40 years of experience in biomedical research, as well as pharmacy practice and entrepreneurship, owning and operating Community Pharmacies in the city of Chicago and beyond.

Dr Addae began her scientific research career in 1972 at Litton Bionetics, working for NIH (National Institutes of Health) in Bethesda, Maryland, USA. Upon obtaining her Master of Science degree, Dr. Addae retuned to Ghana, where she accepted an appointment as a Scientific Officer at Ghana Atomic Energy Commission at Kwabenya, from 1974 to 1977.

Dr. Addae strongly believes that individual creativity and inventive enterprises, which drive progress of a nation, ensue from excellence in education.

Dr. Addae was one of the first Ghanaian scientists to investigate food preservative power of irradiation, researching the safety and efficacy of irradiated cocoa beans. Ghana gets about two billion dollars exporting cocoa every year; however, cocoa beans are very susceptible to insect and fungus attacks and research confirms that irradiation of cocoa beans is one of the best solutions.

Dr. Addae returned to the US in 1977 and continued her work in scientific and cancer research at Litton Bionetics and further completed a doctorate in pharmacy. Dr. Addae also operated pharmaceutical businesses in the Midwest of the US.

Dr. Addae strongly believes that individual creativity and inventive enterprises, which drive progress of a nation, ensue from excellence in education. Dr. Addae sees education of Ghanaian youth as the way for Ghana to stay globally competitive.

Dr. Addae is also an advocate of value addition to agricultural products and diversification of Ghana’s cash crops, and she fully supports President Nana Akufo-Addo's vision for the Tree Crop Development Authority.
